Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about Alberta tickets, SafeRoads sanctions and how we work.
Do I have to attend court?
No. Once retained, we appear on your behalf. In the ordinary course you will not need to take time off work or attend a courthouse anywhere in Alberta.
What happens after I send you my ticket?
We confirm receipt, check for conflicts, and tell you whether we can act. If we can, we request full disclosure from the prosecution and review it before taking any position on your file.
How much does it cost?
Our fee is contingent on a successful result. If we do not achieve one of the outcomes listed on our Fees page, you owe nothing: no consultation fee, no file-opening fee, no disbursements.
Isn't it cheaper to just pay the ticket?
Rarely. Paying is a guilty plea. The conviction sits on your abstract for three years and the demerits for two, and your insurer treats it as a rating event throughout. On most charges the premium consequence over three years exceeds the fine, often by a wide margin.
What is disclosure?
The evidence the Crown intends to rely on: the officer's notes, speed-measurement or device calibration records, witness statements, and any photographs or video. We obtain and read it on every file before we advise you.
How long will my case take?
Most provincial matters resolve within a few months, depending on the courthouse and whether the file proceeds to trial. We will give you a realistic timeline once we have disclosure.
I received an Immediate Roadside Sanction. How long do I have?
Seven days from the Notice of Administrative Penalty to file a review through SafeRoads Alberta. That deadline is strict, and paying the penalty is treated as accepting the contravention. Call us immediately.
Can you help if my matter is a Criminal Code charge?
Yes. We defend impaired driving, refusal, dangerous driving, hit and run, flight from a peace officer and operation while prohibited. These carry a criminal record and are handled differently from provincial tickets.
I drive commercially. Does that change anything?
Substantially. A conviction can affect a Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration, a Carrier Profile and your employment. We defend these files with your livelihood and the carrier's safety rating in view; tell us up front that you drive Class 1 or NSC.
I'm on a GDL. How exposed am I?
Very. Graduated-licence drivers are suspended at eight demerit points rather than fifteen, and any suspension resets your graduation timeline. A single conviction a fully licensed driver could absorb can derail you.
Can you guarantee my ticket will be dismissed?
No agent can guarantee an outcome, and you should be cautious of any who does. What we commit to is obtaining disclosure, testing whether the Crown can prove the charge, and charging you nothing if we do not improve your position.
I already paid the ticket. Can you still help?
Paying is a guilty plea and the conviction is registered. Options afterwards are limited, but call us; in some circumstances an extension or reopening may be available.
Can I appeal a conviction?
A traffic conviction may be appealed to the Court of King's Bench, and an unfavourable SafeRoads decision may in appropriate cases be challenged by judicial review. Deadlines are strict, so speak with us promptly.
Do you offer notary services?
Yes. We act as Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public: affidavits, statutory declarations, certified true copies and international authentication.
Nothing matches that. Ask us directly; we answer.
Have a ticket? Let's get you the right result.
Upload your ticket and licence; we'll take it from there.
Fast. Secure. Confidential.
