What will your ticket actually cost?

The fine is the smallest part. Work out the demerit points and how close a conviction puts you to losing your licence, under the schedule in force from 13 March 2026.

Convictions in the last two years. Leave at zero if you are not sure.

What it costs you

Rises with the speed alleged.

Suspension at 15 points for a fully licensed driver.

This leaves you 12 points short of suspension, for two years.

The schedule sets this band by the speed alleged rather than a flat amount. The figure on your ticket is the one that applies, and it doubles in a designated zone.

What the fine does not cover

  • Insurance premiums, which a conviction affects for three years, often by more than the fine itself.
  • The conviction sits on your abstract for three years, and the points for two years.
  • Class 1, NSC, rideshare and delivery work, where a record can end the job.

Figures follow the Alberta fine schedule in force from 13 March 2026 and the published demerit schedule. Where the schedule sets a fine that rises with speed, a range is shown rather than a single figure. This is general information, not legal advice, and it does not account for the circumstances of your own charge. See the full fine schedule and demerit chart.
