HomeWhen not to hire us

When we will tell you not to hire us

Some files should not be fought. We would rather tell you that up front.

Most legal-services websites are built entirely around reasons to hire the firm. This page is the other half of that conversation, and we think it is the more useful half.

We will tell you not to hire us when the ticket is not worth fighting

If you hold a full licence with a clean abstract and you have picked up a two-point ticket with a modest fine, the honest answer is often that the conviction will cost you very little. We will say so.

When the evidence is strong and the outcome will not change

We obtain disclosure on every file. If, having read it, we conclude that nothing in the material gives us a realistic path to a better outcome, we will tell you rather than run the file and bill nothing at the end of it. You deserve to know where you stand.

When your matter is outside what we do

We are a traffic and provincial offences firm. If your matter is a Criminal Code charge such as impaired driving or dangerous driving causing bodily harm, you need criminal defence counsel, and we will point you toward one.

When there is a conflict

If we act, or have acted, for another party with an interest in the same matter, we cannot act for you. We check this before we open a file, not after.

When the deadline has already passed

Alberta deadlines are strict. If yours has gone by and no extension is realistically available, we will tell you plainly rather than take a file we cannot advance.

Straight answers cost you nothing. Ask us before you pay the ticket.
