Most places make you come to them, during their hours, on their day. If getting to an office is the hard part, we will come to you instead.

Which service you need

Most people are told to "get it notarised" without being told which of the two that means, and are turned away for bringing the wrong one. The difference is straightforward.

As Commissioner for Oaths

• Administering oaths and affirmations
• Taking affidavits for use in Alberta
• Statutory declarations for use in Alberta

As Notary Public

• Everything a Commissioner for Oaths can do
• Certifying true copies of original documents
• Witnessing and authenticating documents for use outside Alberta
• Powers of attorney and commercial instruments
• Documents intended for use internationally

In short: if the document stays in Alberta, a commissioner is usually enough. If it is going to another province or another country, or a copy needs certifying, you need a notary. If you are not sure, send it to us and we will tell you.

One thing a signing service will not do

We are a law firm rather than a counter that stamps whatever is put in front of it. If a document should not be signed as drafted, or needs advice before you commit to it, we will say so before it is sworn rather than after.
