Failing to stop at a stop sign
Provincial Traffic Offences
About this charge
A stop-sign charge carries three demerit points. It sounds minor, but a conviction is a conviction on your abstract, and for drivers already carrying points, or driving for a living, it is not minor at all. Whether the vehicle came to a complete stop is frequently a matter of vantage point and interpretation.
How we defend it
- Examine the officer's angle of observation
- Assess your cumulative point exposure before resolving
- Negotiate toward a non-point outcome where available
